Gold Coins

Gold North American Bald Eagle

The North American Bald Eagle is the official emblem of the United States of America and appears on most official seals of the U.S. Government, including the presidential seal.

Living along seacoasts, rivers, lakes, mountains, and vast valleys, the majestic Bald Eagle is a symbol of strength, prosperity, and unlimited freedom, much like an investment in precious metals.

An apex predator with no natural enemies, the bald eagle has long been a potent symbol of vision, power and stoicism. This amazing coin features the distinctive bullion finish of brilliant relief on a lined textured background. An attractive acquisition for both first-time precious metal buyers and long-term investors.

American Gold Eagle

The United States Mint copied the much-loved $20 Saint-Gaudens gold coin design for the obverse (front) of its new American Eagle. Right of Lady Liberty, the date was in Roman numerals from 1986-91, and in Arabic numerals since. Miley Busiek’s design on the reverse shows a bald eagle landing in its family nest.

American Eagle gold coins are minted only from gold mined in the United States. The gold is 22 karat (a small amount of other metal is added for durability), but each 1 oz. American Eagle contains one full ounce of pure gold.

The United States guarantees American Eagles’ gold content, weight and purity. For this reason, American Eagle gold coins can easily be bought and sold almost anywhere in the world, making these coins among the most commonly traded gold bullion coins in the world.

Gold Bottlenose Dolphin

This 1/3oz gold coin features two bottlenose dolphins.

Struck by the Perth Mint from 1/3oz of 99.99% pure gold, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act of 1965.
The coin’s reverse depicts two jumping dolphins in the shape of a heart above a stylized representation of waves. Also included in the design are water droplets, the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN BOTTLENOSE DOLPHIN’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

The Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2019 year-date, the weight and purity, and the monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse.

Gold Rose Crown Guinea

Official legal tender of Saint Helena, the reverse of the coin features the Rose Crown Shield, the coin’s weight and bears the quality mint mark of the East India Company. The obverse bears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by internationally renowned sculptor Raphael Maklouf, the issuing country St. Helena, the denomination £25, and the year date 2018. Both the obverse and reverse feature a distinct East India Company traditional pattern in the fields.

The Guinea is one of the world’s most respected gold coinages in history carrying with it a reputation of trust and purity. First struck in 1663 for King Charles II it became the pride of Britain’s coinage for 150 years. Decus et Tutamen, meaning an Ornament and a Safeguard appeared on King Charles II Five Guinea coin, iconic words associated with the Guinea which remains a testament its beauty and reliability.

A symbol of Britain’s rising colonial power, the Guinea was recognized and accepted throughout the world as for its purity and reliability and treasured by merchants as they traveled the world on East India Company Ships.

Investing in Gold

With the world favoring online investing, stock markets, and cryptocurrencies, it almost seems archaic to invest in tangible assets. We barely even carry cash nowadays, so why would it be a good idea to invest in something physical that requires care and storage like gold coins and bars?

Gold and other precious metals have been a sound investment for banks, governments, businesses, and individuals for centuries, and there are several reasons why. One primary advantage of adding gold to your portfolio is its stability. When other investments go down, gold seems to gradually increase over time. Gold is also a good defense against inflation.

High-value investors like to diversify their portfolios with gold because you aren’t required to pay any capital gains tax unless you sell. One popular advantage of investing in gold is that nobody knows you have it (unless you tell them), and in the unlikely event of a massive financial crisis, you can use your gold as currency.

Other Forms of Gold Investing

You don’t have to purchase tangible gold to reap the benefits of gold investing. You can buy gold and put it in your Investment Retirement Account, but you won’t be able to take your shiny gold coins home with you. Other forms of gold investing include:

  • Investing in gold mines
  • Gold certificates
  • Hedging against inflation
  • Exchange-traded products

You shouldn’t look to gold as the only investment option, but it is a great way to diversify your portfolio. Several investors allocate between 5 to 10% of their investment portfolio to gold and other precious metals.

FAQ

What is better, gold coins or bars?

The answer depends on your interest. Some people prefer gold coins because of their designs, popularity, and unique history. Other investors prefer bars because they’re easier to store, and you get more value for your money. Evaluate why you want to buy gold in the first place, and that will help you decide which is the better option.

What is the cheapest way to buy gold?

Gold bars are the cheapest way to buy tangible gold. They have smaller premiums, and you can buy them as light as 1-gram.

Which country has the cheapest gold?

Hong Kong currently has the lowest premiums on gold assets. There are also several places to purchase gold in Hong Kong, such as retailers, banks, and online marketplaces.

What’s the difference between gold bullion and gold coins?

The difference between the two boils down to your personal preference. Modern gold bullion coins contain a standard amount of gold, where collectible gold coins may vary in weight and value. However, some historic gold coins are in circulation with a lower gold content but are worth far more than standard bullion coins.

Final Thoughts

There’s no surprise that gold coins and bars are an exciting investment. We value gold as a species for a wide range of reasons: value, practical use, beauty, and so on. Another great thing about investing in gold is there’s a low barrier to entry. You don’t have to buy coins or bars by the ounce to start collecting, which makes investing in gold an excellent option for beginners.

Investing in gold also allows you to take physical control of your investments and easily store them in your home. Other forms of currency have come and gone over the years, but gold remains the one resilient investment that remains in demand and has inherent value.
