American Gold Eagle Proof 1-oz

A small number of proof gold American Eagles are struck each year for collectors, and they are often sold out soon after issue. With the same design as the gold American Eagle bullion coins, proof American Eagles are minted in 1-oz., 1/2-oz., 1/4-oz. and 1/10-oz. sizes and can be purchased in any of these sizes singly or in 2- or 4-piece sets.

The obverse (front) duplicates the $20 Saint-Gaudens gold coin, which many think America’s most beautiful gold coin and which President Roosevelt commissioned to rival the artistry of Greek and Roman coins. The reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, shows a male bald eagle grasping an olive branch as it lands in its family’s nest. Wording displays the gold content and purity, the denomination, the issuing nation, “E PLURIBUS UNUM” (Latin for “From Many, One”) and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

Proof gold American Eagle coins are made with a more-detailed minting process. Special dies are used on the coin blanks, which are fed manually into the presses and struck multiple times to produce detailed coin images that look softly frosted above a mirror-like background. Each proof American Eagle comes in a beautiful, dark blue velvet presentation case with an official United States Mint Certificate of Authority.

Gold bullion coins from the United States Mint are the only official gold bullion coins whose weight, content and purity are guaranteed by the United States Government, making them investors’ top choice worldwide.

Proof American Eagles (gold and silver) are the only collectible coins allowed in U.S. Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs).
